About Myself:
I have lived in the same town since I was 14 years old. I went through nurses training a million years ago, worked in an operating room for 27 years in a county hospital, a municipal hospital and a large multi-speciality clinic with a general surgeon over that period. I become involved with special education through our son - which lead to my working with the Department of Education with the Parent & Educator Connection for the past 19 years. Funny where your kids take you......
About My Family:
Roger, the funny guy lead, Rick the independent soul who lead us to the world of living with disability and Allison, the firecracker typical child. They are great siblings to each other. Oh, and Grayson, the good buddy dog brought to the family by Allison.
I'm here because...
Rick has cerebral palsy, medically he is considered a quad - he lives independently about 40 miles from our home (in his own home!). He has many meaningful activities in his life, takes a few classes a semester at the community college - and has many friends and acquaintances. And he has fish. He would say, life is good.

This is going to be a 'crowd source' blog, in that I am going to post a question. and I would like readers to post their thoughts in the blog! Shall we give it try?

I should probably start with a simpler issue, but this a recent question to me, and I don't know that answer.

I am beginning to hear reports of students with disabilities who do not have family available to them, are approaching 18, and who are in need of guardians. Do any of you have experience with this issue?…
