I formerly worked in healthcare marketing but have been a full-time mother and advocate since my son's premature birth in 2007. I am an active volunteer in my community, giving my time and energy to my son's school, the March of Dimes and the Children's Miracle Network at University of Iowa Children's Hospital. I also tutor a gentleman from the Democratic Republic of Congo as he works towards citizenship through the Catherine McAuley Center and I am on the board of directors for Playtime Poppy Children's Theatre.
About My Family:
My son, John, was born at 30 weeks gestation in 2007 weighing 2 lbs 5 oz. He had three surgeries before he was discharged from the University of Iowa Children's Hospital after 107 days. Additionally, he was diagnosed with polymicrogyria, a neurological disorder in August 2014.
My husband, Martin, works in Information Technology for the City of Cedar Rapids at the Cedar Rapids Public Library. I have two adult step-children.
I'm here because...
All parents need support and parents of children with unique challenges need unique support.
