Assistive Technology Legal Project (ATLP)

The ATLP has provided legal advocacy to more than 400 Iowans since the project began in 1993 as part of the Iowa Program For Assistive Technology.  Recently, Disability Rights Iowa started providing the services.

 This includes free legal help to Iowans dealing with adapted equipment legal issues, such as:

  • Denials of equipment claims by Medicare Part B, Medicaid or private insurance

What is a WoodyPack?

James “Woody” Beckham created the Woody Pack after he had a spinal cord injury in 2011 playing rugby. After his injury he discovered various types of assistive technology devices that helped him regain his independence.

Zero Stigma Facts

- African Americans are more likely to experience mental health struggles, by 20%.

- 18-22 Veterans die by suicide by suicide due to untreated mental illness.

- 90% of children die by suicide have a mental health condition

- 1 in 10 people aged 5-16 suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder- That is 3 children in every class.
