Play Ball!

Playing ball can be altered by adding sound, texture, or size. The Easter Seals Iowa Assistive Technology Program Lending Library has a variety of balls of all different textures, sizes, and sounds. Sound may enhance an individual’s ability to recognize the location of a ball.

Gripping

For many tasks, holding a pencil or toothbrush to grabbing a rake or kayak paddle, gripping can post a barrier and sometimes pain! The Easter Seals Iowa Assistive Technology Program may have supports to demonstrate and/or loan, for these gripping concerns.

Foam Tubing (AT4all # 161654) can be used to build-up the grip of a device or utensil and may make it easier to grip.

Walk for Independence Save the Date

The Easter Seals Iowa Walk for Independence is Saturday, May 5, 2018. It will be held at Camp Sunnyside, 401 NE 66th Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50310.

The activities will begin at 8:30am and go until 12:00pm. The stroll around Lake Cheerio at Camp Sunnyside will begin at 10:00am.

As the Holidays are fast approaching, many of you may be wondering what to purchase for the children in your life. Our Assistive Technology Program Lending Library has nearly 200 devices specifically for youth and adaptive needs.

Craig Mayes

Craig Mayes has worked for Easter Seals Iowa for 22 years. He works in the Assistive Technology Center with the Equipment Loan Program and also with the Maintenance Department at Camp Sunnyside.
