Work Innovations and Opportunity Act (WIOA)

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a federal law that helps youth and adults get employment training and support services. It also helps match employers with the workers they need. The goal of WIOA is for everyone, including those with disabilities, to have competitive and integrated community employment.

WIOA strengthens the workforce and education programs to benefit people who may have barriers to employment. The law:

  • Expands education and training options
  • Assists disadvantaged and unemployed youth and adults while they learn
  • Aligns planning and accountability policies across state programs
  • Increases the focus on  serving people who have significant disabilities

Pre Employment Transition Services  (Pre-ETS)  are a major part of the law.  Students with disabilities should be receiving these services per their IEP or transition plan.

  • Job Exploration Counseling
  • Work-Based Learning  Experiences
  • Opportunity Counseling
  • Workplace Ready Training
  • Self-Advocacy Instruction

*If you haven't heard your IEP team talk about these...ASK them!

*PLEASE share if you have had a positive transition planning experience or if your student is receiving any of these Pre Employment Transition services!
